Fun Day Fiasco

I came across this saying “karma is a bitch” a few times while reading some comments online recently. I understand karma as a religious concept to mean “what goes around comes around”. I also understand that bitch is a derogatory word for insulting a woman. It is also a female dog.

Why is karma being referred to as a bitch? I sure don’t know. But i know it is a bad one….it can also be good. I understand karma i a good devotee to the principle of reciprocity. I feel so uneasy using this ‘b’ word. It’s so belittling. I have no choice though. All i want is to drive the point home.
This year’s fun day was a disappointment, a fact. The supposed fun was marred with frustrations. Frustrations that could have been avoided had it been tackled with a shred of seriousness
poster fun day (1)
The Athi River campus was flooded with intriguing fun day posters before the event, pinned to almost every notice board. The day began with a boring chilly morning, as if to augur ill of the rest of the day. Buses left the campus later than expected. Till 2.00pm, students were still arriving. Soon they began to ask for lunch, matter fact the first thing they asked immediately after alighting. Concerning the flow of events that day, the Secretary General (SG) is a joker. A big one. It is after people are so tired swimming, others sporting, that she turns up and gets to the mic’. What she said after that was unexpected. It injured the morale of almost everybody. She talked of the caterer backing down and switching off the phone, then followed a statement like “I think we have been conned”.

The SG said all these smiling. I was equally irked as everyone else. This was a joke of poor taste. It meant one thing-no food! This brings to test her competence and way of handling things. This is the same person who attacked the previous government with utmost criticism and malice, specifically the secretary general of the time. This is why I say Karma is a bitch. You should not throw stones when you know you live in a glass house. Karma knows how to pay back dearly. Karma has a wicked sense of humor.I have learnt to respect leaders. My leaders. Since life has a hefty lot of surprises, the same mantle may fall on you in the future. I believe so. Let it be known that am not slamming anyone here but only necessarily raising my eyebrows.

It is in the public domain that there was a student organizing committee tasked to see to it that the whole event was a success and nothing went amiss, but then word has it that there was no transparency with the same. The SG was the boss and what she says is what is done. She never introduced the caterer to the committee, not even how credible they were with their catering services. The committee was working with a ghost service provider! Why go for an outsider while we have our own Ndege Tausi and Mocharo? I think some game was played here.

Then to the entire student government, they did a conclusive executive meeting the evening before the fun day. Under the presidency of the chair, how could he assent to a budget from which the catering services were missing? And what is his take on this? He was not even in the event to answer the big questions. They have since then went mute without any resolution announced to students.
Again the student government is taking the entire Daystar populace to be of bovine minds. We are not. The students own all the rights to know what they have to make up for the fun day fiasco.

Of Fake Men of Cloth and Vulnerable Kenyans.

"Jicho Pevu leo iko kali wazito" (Jicho pevu is of top notch today guys). This was a friend's post on a WhatsApp group, one of the umpteenth notifications that plunged my mobile phone. I was irked by the fact that I was not close to TV then. However, intrigued at extreme measure. Trying to get a hint of what was all about; I dashed to my phone book and gave him a dingle. I learnt it was about a ‘Dr. Prophet’ Victor Kanyari…..what a title for a gospel minister!
kanyaripastor031114The flashy 'man of cloth' Kanyari

The name wasn't much new to my eardrums. This was the same person that made headlines sometimes back in an investigative piece over conning, a habit it has become too sweet to abandon. The following day I was on internet trying to get a taste of what had at that point gone viral, I guess faster than the West-African Ebola (no pun intended) -more so among the merciless Kenyans on Twitter, eminently dubbed the #KOTs. These are  some of how they ‘roasted’ Kanyari: Things Kanyari Should Heal..

@JaySleekLeBron: Hizi cologne za River Road, after kusweat kiasi msee ananuka ammonia, #thingskanyarishouldheal

@Its_Rizack: #thingskanyarishouldheal feelings za robert Alai....

                Then this one…

Then this one left me in stitches, my stomach and ribs still hurt!!!>>>

@xtiandela: #ThingsKanyariShouldHeal loool...Ole Kiyiapi's gap..ndo akue anasema Thitimaa bila kuzima Candles! .... Kenyans are a crazy lot. they make fun o anything and everything!

Back to Kanyari, I think the embattled prophet has taken it too far by taking advantage of the flock financially, physically, spiritually and even emotionally. At one moment I was made to think that Kenyans have become so vulnerable to the point that every man of the cloth that comes their way sweeps them off their feet and they fall into a trance with them. We have cohorts of them these days. From markets to matatus; I encountered one last weekend on my way to Makueni. Immediately the bus hit the road, he too rose and started doing an ‘alter call’.  He had turned weary and noticed no monetary offering was forthcoming. I couldn't believe my eyes when he ‘changed shop’ and started selling herbal medicine. He went repeatedly saying “yaosha mwili yako na uchafu wote” (this cleanses your inner body and all impurities). I was tempted to ask him “Na hii dawa yako yaosha dhambi?” (Do you herbs cleanse sins too?)!

Kanyari is just another son of a con. There’s truth in the adage that “Mtoto wa nyoka ni nyoka” (the young one of a snake is just a snake).  So let’s just say he’s a strategic businessman. He hit the market at the most ripen time to dupe Kenyans at their most vulnerable state. We've become tourists and explorers of the gospel hopping from church to church on the look for churches with the most catchy names in town!

Corruption too has been taken a whole new level. Talk of Kenyans and short cuts. They want instant success without necessarily working for it. To an extend they’re thinking God is Kenyan; they can bail their way out even to matters regards to the realm of heaven. To them the end doesn't justify the means.

Majority of people are misled and need utmost intervention like yesterday. Reading the bible is one thing while understanding is the other. We need to focus on the latter and ‘worship in truth and in spirit’, as so in the scriptures. We’re in a generation that believes the pastor more than the Bible.

With this rate and trend the end times will find majority of ‘Christians’ on the run! Before then, I stay vigil for the next ‘Kanyari’ on the spotlight!

Jesus is Calling...

However stained our hearts are with guilt and condemnation,God is still calling on us to His presence. Are we going to play down on him or are we going to listen and come down to his presence like Zacheus and allow his presence, forgiveness and then blessings into our lives, homes and even our generations? Lets choose the latter and be ready to have a portion from the floodgates of heaven..My bible tells me that The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
(Psalms 34:18)

OUR GOD IS A ONE MORE TIME GOD.

Are you living a life of guilt and condemnation?
A distasteful past?...But here's a reason to smile.>>He's a one more time God.
He never holds a record of the past.
He never run out of one more times.
Jacob,a one time deceiver got a chance to be called Israel, meaning a prince with God.
Jonah;he went left when God needed him to go right.Nevertheless,he's accorded this incredible one more time.God staged a whale to fulfill his purpose..
...

..are you there?..
OUR GOD IS A ONE MORE TIME GOD.

KENYA @ 50

Kenya has endured a distance,a journey of rain and sunshine.A walk in the park and over thorns. She has seen both dark and glorious days. Some may not see a shred of reason to celebrate about her.....But then we mustn't be too blind to acknowledge the scope at which we've achieved.we all owe Kenya a communal pride it deserves.I know i wouldn't love any other besides Kenya,my history my heritage,a country with warm and proud people.I celebrate her astute sports men, more improved roads and rails than we achieved independence,i celebrate an immensely growing economy and throbbing agricultural production.Kenyans are people so generous-come together as bees during dark days of mayhem. Moreover,i celebrate her charismatic politicians, forgetting not her past three presidents.I JUST LOVE KENYA;MY MOTHERLAND.So much to celebrate about her.Through fire and rain i will always strive to defend and stand by you.I Love You.HAPPY BIRTHDAY KENYA:-)
